Tonight starts the 2016 entry draft. The Penguins, as of now, do not have a draft pick in the first round, but here are a few things that you should keep an eye out for.
The Penguins’ first pick comes in the second round at #55 which will take place tomorrow. (more on that shortly)
It’s short of hard to believe the Penguins will move into the first round at all, but with the rumors swirling of a possible Fleury or Malkin, YES I believe they are taking calls on Geno but not exactly shopping him, anything is possible.
Today would be the most logical time to move Fleury if it were to happen this summer. So if it doesn’t happen today, don’t be surprised if he isn’t moved until sometime during the season.
All-in-all its hard to think that anything crazy will happen on the Penguins front today, it’s not impossible, just unlikely.
Now once the draft gets under way tomorrow, the Penguins will finally have a chance to take a crack at the talent pool with the 55th overall pick.
It wouldn’t be surprising at all if the Penguins went for a defender early on however they have a habit of selecting, what they believe, is the best available player at the time of their pick.
These are the rest of their pick positions.
61st (2nd round)
121st (4th round)
151st (5th round)
181st (6th round)
A bit of a side note, the Penguins unveiled today that they are going back to Pittsburgh Gold completely for their Home and Away jerseys.
Wouldn’t it be nice if they then decided to go this route with their Third jersey?
With all that said let’s not forget that today could be the final day Marc-Andre Fleury is a Penguin, if it is enjoy some his best saves (video below) and remember everything he did for this team… if it isn’t his final day you can STILL enjoy watching the video below.
