GMJR’s thoughts on the Trade today
Rutherford and Toronto started speaking about a month ago. Not getting Saad did not make their decision to get Kessel. He was their guy for a long time.
Rutherford says they did their homework on Kessel, they know the plus and minuses.
Its hard to turn down a chance to get one of the top scorers in the league.
Rutherford is unsure where Kessel will fit, but believes it will all be worked out.
JR wants Wingers not just a winger for his two centers. They are still looking at a fourth line center and winger. He believes something more will get done today.
Get Excited Pens fans!
I will just leave this here
2:34 – Have to believe if the Pens were interested in P.A. that they could have matched this offer or bested it. *sigh*
2:33 – JR’s thoughts to come soon
Cap Update – Pens have just south of
$8 $6 million in space available right now. If they can move one or two of Sutter, Kunitz, Scuderi things could get interesting.
2:27 – To the ney sayers
2:14 – Crosby on the BIG Trade
For those that have asked or wondered, there will be a FULL update later tonight on all things Penguins.
2:04 – Pens now have their sights set on Alex Semin.
1:58 – Jayson Megna signs with Rangers
Thoughts on things so far.
GMJR did what was needed, he got not only a Top Six forward but one of the tops in the league. He had them retain salary and didn’t give up Maatta or Pouliot. I can see the Pens now hitting the phones hard to begin the signing process and don’t be shocked if another trade happens.
1:43 – FULL DEAL
1:40 – TIm Erixon and Tyler Biggs also sent to Pittsburgh on Kessel Deal. Per NHL Network on SiriusXM Radio
1:37 – Interesting thought about regaining their 2016 pick
1:26 – Interesting
1:25 – Enjoy the laugh
1:19 – Salary retention on Kessel deal $1.25 mill?
1:16 – Toronto Sends 2nd round pick and Spaling possibly
1:12 – Kessel trade update
1:09 – Now GMJR knows what kind of Cap space he will have to fill out the roster with some Free Agents. He may also make some more trades before October.
1:00 – Kapanen, Harrigton and a Draft pick to Leafs. No idea on Salary retained by Tor if there is.
12:54 KESSEL TO THE PENS MORE INFO SOON Kapanen Harrington and Draft pick
12:52 – Im a bit upset at this.
12:49 – Steve Downie to Arizona per Sportsnet one
12:46 – Another Pens target off the table
12:43 – See ya Comeau, it was fun while it lasted.
12:39 – Talks still ongoing with PGH and TOR. Young prospects seem to be involved and another Team in the West has thrown their hat in the ring.
12:37 – So long Pauly
12:34 – *sigh*
12:29 – More on Tikhonov
12:27 – What do you think?
12:17 – Funny how the Capitals seem obsessed at acquire former Penguins defenders. Orpik and Nisky last year Chorny this year. Maybe Martin is next?
12:14 – Chorny joins Orpik and Niskanen.
12:11 – So long Thomas
12:10 – Remember that Russian Tikhonov? Seems Pens may not be as favored as initially believed.
11:57 – Just minutes before here is a link to all the Free Agents
11:25 – Paul Martin appears to be the defenseman everyone wants. Unlikely Pens resign him.
11:20 – It seems the rumors are Penguins are big on attempting to get a Kessel deal done today. If you ask me that will only happen if they cannot sign one of their top targets via Free Agency. Even then they should wait until tomorrow so not to have to pay any of that $4 million bonus Phil gets.
10:30AM – It all starts at 12pm folks…Are you ready?
It seems Penguins took a run at acquiring Brandon Saad before he was dealt to the Blue Jackets. Unsure what was offered but it obviously couldn’t match what Columbus gave. Look back for more info later tonight.
June 29th Update 2 The Penguins have extended qualifying offers to pending RFA’s Beau Bennet, Bobby Farnham, Brian Dumoulin, Dominik Uher and Reid McNeill. That leaves Goaltender Eric Hartzell, Forward Adam Payerl and Defensman Nick D’Agostino without deals or potential deals as they now head to the July 1st Free Agent market.
June 29th Update 1 The Penguins re-signed pending RFA Ian Cole to a 3 year $6.3 million contract. He now brings a $2.1 million cap hit over the next three years. This is a phenomenal deal that absolutely helps the Penguins blue-line over the next few years.
June 27th Penguins Selected Daniel Sprong with their Second round pick in the NHL Entry Draft. Sprong is a player many thought would be picked in the first round. He brings a Hard NHL ready shot along with excellent skating skills. his biggest need is to work on his defensive game, no different than many young players.
