It’s no surprise leading up to July 1st (First Day of NHL Free Agency) news and rumors about who the Penguins are interested in signing will begin popping up, and frequently. Follow the link to see the latest name and stats of a potential Penguins target.
Per Josh Yohe of the DKonpittsburghsports.com, The Penguins have shown interest in signing Michael Frolik, most recently of the Winnipeg Jets. He is a Right Winger who could bring a lot to the Penguins top six.
By looking at his Hero chart above its easy to see he would be a solid fit on one of the Penguins top two lines. By looking below you will see how strong he is defensively as well.
The big question now is, what is Frolik worth? Last season he made $3.3 million and went on to score 19 goals and 42 points. Being only 26 and his future looking VERY bright, you would have to assume he will be receiving some sort of pay raise. $4 – $4.5 million a year, the term is sort of up in the air at this point. His age would make him a great long term asset on the Penguins top two lines, but how long?
If you ask me Frolik would be an excellent pick up, one that would not cost nearly as much as a Phil Kessle would, not just money wise, but asset wise as well.
What do you all think and stay tuned for my take on a couple upcoming FA’s that the Penguins should Definitely look at.
